Most people use commercial soaps sold in big box stores because they are thought to be cheaper, and some people think these soaps are not harmful to the skin because everything seems okay. If have have ever dealt with any of the skin issues listed below you may have your reasons to use natural soap (you should be consistently using natural soaps to see changes, it may take awhile depending on the person but don’t be discouraged, natural soaps have so many positive benefits!).
Are you suffering from any of these skin conditions?
- Dry Skin
- Itchy Skin

- Psoriasis
- Rashes
- Bumps
- Acne
- General Irritation
You may want to stop using commercial soaps as they are very harsh, and can cause any number of these issues overtime.
Many people of all ages have healed or decreased their skin issues by using soaps that are much better for the skin; natural soaps as they contain no harsh chemicals, way less ingredients, and provide moisture to the skin.
10 Reasons to Use Natural Soap
1. Made from raw materials (it's actually soap!)
The commercial soaps seen in big box stores are very different than handmade natural soaps for many reasons. Commercially manufactured soaps have been known as synthetic detergent products according to the FDA. The detergent products that are used in commercial soaps are popular because they make suds (bubbles) easily in water but are not true forms of soap. On the other hand natural soaps are a true soap as they do not contain any form of detergent product, these soaps still produce natural bubbles and completely cleanse the body naturally without the use of any of those harmful and skin irritating detergents! This is why we love our handmade natural soaps, our packaging is also plastic free.
2. Environmentally Friendly
A large part of making the switch to natural soaps is because there is such minimal environmental impact with natural soaps. On the contrary, commercially made soaps can be very bad for our water ecosystems. The detergent that is found in the big name soap companies actually breaks the surface tension of the water which reduces the amount of oxygen level found in the water that creates a negative impact on our aquatic life. Fish need oxygen to survive and if detergents are found leaching into waterways, less oxygen will be trapped in the water, giving less and less opportunity for marine life to thrive. Hence the reason we wanted to introduce our own soaps made with simple ingredients that break down and are biodegradable, making them much safer for our ecosystem.
3. Made with Natural Ingredients
Perhaps the most important reason to choose natural soaps is due to the minimal ingredients. Who really knows what commercial companies use in their soaps? Well, we found out and there’s a lot more toxins and irritants than quality ingredients. For one, Parabens are used in commercial soaps. If you didn’t already know, Parabens disrupt hormone function and harm fertility in both men and women. Not only that, it’s known to increase risks of cancer. Yes, we couldn’t believe it either! The list of harmful ingredients in commercially made soaps are astonishing. A quick google search and you will find many of the ingredients those companies are using don’t belong in our bodies. The soaps that we have created contain all natural oils like coconut oil, olive oil, depending on the soap bar essential oils, and organic shea butter. Nothing more is needed to make good quality soap!
4. Natural Soap is NOT made with:
The soaps we make include nothing they shouldn’t have in them.
- No synthetic ingredients
- No artificial fragrances or perfumes
- No artificial colors
- No detergents
- No synthetic preservative
Many of the soaps that big companies make contain all kinds of added chemicals to increase shelf life and it’s not something we want to be putting into our bodies. Knowing what is in your soap is important but not only that, knowing what is not contained in our soaps is equally important. We strive to keep everyone informed about what should be in natural soaps. The only three ingredients that our natural soaps contain are an oil base (coconut or olive oil), water and Lye to create a solid bar. Other ingredients can be added to increase moisturizing effects such as Shea butter or honey in some cases.
5. Natural Soaps are Moisturizing
Unlike commercially made soaps that have skin drying and irritating chemicals, natural soaps do the opposite; moisturize and leave your skin feeling smooth. One of the many chemicals used for commercial soap companies that dries out the skin is called sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). SLS is a detergent that helps break down oil and grease which is what makes the soaps bubbly, but ultimately causes dry skin by removing the natural oil our skin produces. The organic Shea butter contained in our natural soaps will nourish and hydrate deep into the pores of skin allowing for that silky smooth feeling. Shea butter has a high concentration of vitamins, fatty acids, anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It’s essential when wanting to maintain healthy looking skin naturally.
6. Aromatherapy
If you have ever tried essential oils you may understand the many great properties they offer. Typically essential oils are used as forms of aromatherapy. But can you use essential oils on your skin? The answer is yes. Many oils have different great benefits for your skin’s complexion and if your skin is not sensitive it can be helpful. Commercial soaps may claim to have essential oils in their soaps, however in reality they are usually made from synthetic fragrance oils because they hold a more consistent scent. Many of the synthetic chemicals in the fragrances derive from petroleum products and benzene derivatives which are known carcinogens. The essential oils that have the greatest benefits for your skin would be lavender essential oil and lemon essential oils. Lavender oil can reduce acne, lighten skin and reduce wrinkles. Lemon oil is also good for acne because it kills bacteria that could be trapped in your pores and helps clarify the skin with natural antioxidants and vitamin C. Overall the more natural the oil the better for you skin.
7. Maintain healthy skin
The use of natural soaps is without a doubt one of the best things you can do for the overall health of your skin. As previously mentioned commercial soap companies often use different chemicals and fragrances to enhance the smell and texture of their soaps but they ultimately will not increase your skin health – there’s a good chance it could be doing more harm than good. Simply, most natural soap products use high quality natural ingredients that clean but don’t strip the skin and hydrate your skin naturally. Natural soaps contain antioxidants that help the skin repair itself from sun damage and other soaps that contain chemicals. Our natural soaps are known to help with skin conditions like eczema, acne and sunburns with all natural healing properties.
8. Provides a good lather without synthetic foam booster
Natural soaps are great for your skin; it contains glycerin through the soap making process and it draws in and holds moisture that will leave your skin hydrated and soft all day long. By using all natural soaps your skin is able to heal and repair itself from irritants found in commercial store soap. Many of the soaps that are natural do make suds (bubbles) yet are compared with commercial soaps due to more suds. This is a common misconception, extra bubbles are not a measure of quality soap. Bubbles created by the big soap bar companies achieve bubbles through chemical detergents that are added to the soaps to convince consumers that it is a good cleansing bar aka marketing claims.
9. Natural soap is economical
The soaps we buy in stores and the natural soaps we create often vary in price and many people wonder why is that the case? Store bought soaps are normally cheaper, so why would you spend a bit more money on natural soap? Well, the synthetic ingredients used by big soap manufacturers contain harmful ingredients that are very cheap to produce in a lab in order to produce artificial affects. These soap companies also use low quality ingredients and irritants in their soaps to increase the shelf life, and you likely notice the dry skin you are feeling after using such soaps. So while you may save on your bars of soap you are spending even more on lotions and creams that in most cases contain the same kinds of irritants and synthetic fragrances. Hence the reason why natural soaps are generally more expensive; due to the quality ingredients that do the most for your skin’s health and in the long run you end spending less money due to a reduced need for lotions and creams.
10. Natural soaps are unique
Soaps made from big commercial companies are normally plain white or a very bright colour from the artificial colourants used. Natural soaps get a different kind of appreciation as they are made special from every batch. The process of making natural soaps can be a lengthy process but in the end every bar has its own unique touch of natural colour without sacrificing any of the great benefits or scent. Our shop makes soaps made with only natural colourants from ranging from Orange, Lemon, Cinnamon, Dead Sea Clay, Charcoal and so on which really shows how our soaps are unique and can bring many benefits toy our skin. Natural Soaps bring a new refreshing look to how we perceive soap as it’s a form of artistry.
